Internet Safety:
There are several ways to ensure that you stay safe while using the Internet, such as social media, online banking, personal e-mail, and public resources such as Craigslist.
Using Public Internet Access
It is best to not log in personal accounts on a public library computer or someone else's computer. Online banking and accessing your personal e-mail is best to do on your own personal computer. For safety, you can choose whether or not you wish for the computer to save user login information (user name and password). Make sure to check "No" while using someone else's computer. You can also delete search history on the "History" tab.
Social Media
Only talk to and add people you personally know on your social media accounts. Every social media account allows for the user to manage their privacy settings. You can make photos private (except profile photo) and information private. Do not reply to people you do not know or people who send message requests. Do not send photos to people you do not know and do not send photos that you would not want to go public.
Online Banking
Ask your bank on how you can be safe. Each bank website will have a page about safe online banking. Ask a parent or guardian for help before entering card information to purchase online.
Public Advertisement
Craigslist is a popular website for advertising items or services for sale. Never use Craigslist without an adult present. Never meet anyone in private. Never input personal information through this site such as identity or credit card information.

Avoid Plagiarism
Go on OWL Purdue (On "Useful Links" page) and learn how to cite sources for school assignments. Plagiarism results with a failing grade and can sometimes result with expulsion. Many teachers and professors use Turnitin.com (http://turnitin.com/) for students to submit essays. Turnitin reviews your essay and determines an "originality" percentage of your work. Plagiarism is academic dishonesty.
Cyber Bullying / Sexual Assault
It is important for you to report to a trusted adult or a teacher if you are having trouble with someone online. There are people at school such as psychologists and counselors that are trained and available to help you when in need. Threats are a serious sign for you to report immediately.
Think before you link. Think before you post.
